Facebook Changes its Company name to Meta

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the social media giant will change the name of the hosting company to Meta, in a reorganization that comes as the company faces a series of public relations issues.

Zuckerberg made the announcement at the annual Facebook conference on Thursday, in which he outlined his metaverse vision – a digital world built on our own. “We believe the metaverse will be the successor of the mobile internet,” Zuckerberg said.

The new Meta company will include Facebook, its largest subsidiary, and apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and the virtual reality brand Oculus.

The company will also change its stock ticker from FB to MVRS, effective Dec. 1, the company said in the announcement of its name change.

The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It will let you share immersive experiences with other people even when you can’t be together — and do things together you couldn’t do in the physical world. It’s the next evolution in a long line of social technologies.

Zuckerburg said “In the metaverse, you’ll be able to do almost anything you can imagine — get together with friends and family, work, learn, play, shop, create — as well as completely new experiences that don’t really fit how we think about computers or phones today”

“Our hope is that within the next decade, the metaverse will reach a billion people, host hundreds of billions of dollars of digital commerce, and support jobs for millions of creators and developers,” Zuckerberg wrote in a letter.
