A huge fire has ripped through an industrial estate in Ilford, east London, shooting fireballs hundreds of feet into the air. Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters rushed to Hainault industrial estate on Fowler Road at around 9pm last night. Three two-storey warehouses were engulfed in massive flames as firefighters battled to bring the huge blaze under control.
Local residents area have been told to keep their doors and windows closed until the fire is brought under control.
The London Fire Brigade have released a statement to say that this morning, 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters continue to tackle the fire, where the warehouses remain alight.
“Steady progress” is now being made, while residents were again reminded to keep their windows and doors shut to avoid smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
The London Fire Brigade said in a statement: “Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters were called to a fire on Fowler Road in Ilford last night.
“This morning ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters continue to tackle the fire where three two-storey warehouses remain alight.
“Steady progress is being made this morning and residents are being advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to the smoke.
“The Brigade was called at 2107. Fire crews from Romford, Dagenham, Ilford, Woodford and other fire stations in the surrounding area are at the scene. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”
